The extended Howard Family
After many years of feeling the need to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children, we took the plunge in 2019 and registered as a place of safety. Our initial expectation was to provide safety care to children while they wait to be placed into foster care. In Sep/Oct 2019 we took in our first baby into safety care which eventually became foster care. We now have four foster children in our care. Our biological children are also invested in the care of the foster children, whether at home or from a distance.
The Sunflower Kids Story
After almost six years of providing safety care and foster care we realised that we could increase the number of vulnerable children we serve by registering a nonprofit which would enable us to enlist the help of a broader community of caring people.
Up until the establishment of the nonprofit, the needs of the children we cared for were being met out of our own personal funds, and as we started to support other families with foster children it became inevitable that we would have to consider other means of getting the necessary resources to support our activities.
At the moment the Sunflower Kids Foundation supports two foster care homes, with the desire to expand to more homes.

Our Directors
The Sunflower Kids Foundation currently has four directors that oversee and manage the funds entrusted to us by the donors.
William Howard
Father of 4 biological children and 4 foster children, William has a passion for children that are vulnerable children in our community. William brings his wealth of experience of more than 30 years managing large budgets and projects in large corporates to provide the necessary business framework to the NPC.
Andre Malan
Andre is a father of 3 and grandfather of 2. Andre is one of our independent directors, but is still passionate about the activities being performed by the NPC. He has a background in law enforcement and security and has management experience in the hospitality industry.
Hannelie Howard
Hannelie is the driving force behind much of the softer caring parts of the NPC. Hannelie has 4 biological children of her own, and 4 foster children. She is a qualified counsellor and brings her knowledge to bear in helping the vulnerable children deal with the trauma and impact of the circumstances they come from.
Carel Visser
Carel is a father of 3 children. Carel is another of our independent directors. He is a farmer by trade. He cares about the local community and wants to see the vulnerable in the community supported to rise above their circumstances.
